a 350 year old house hidden by an apple orchard and a marsh

Sometimes, our dreams pick us, and in the case of Goodale Farm, it certainly did. We weren’t looking for the farm, or maybe we were without knowing it, but we knew when the opportunity presented itself that it was our home.

We also know we are truly just the custodians of this beautiful land and house, lucky enough to share in it’s history much larger than us. We are humbled to play a part in the story and beholden to it’s upkeep… and so very much upkeep there is.

The house

The Isaac Goodale House is a first-period house that dates back to 1669, but was moved to it’s present location at Goodale Farm in 1928. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 and is subject to both national and local preservation agreements.

Dream it

We weren’t necessarily looking for a 1st Period house, and (complete with mushrooms growing out of the bathroom corners) it certainly wasn’t the most comfortable.

Restore it

After five years and close collaboration with historians and craftsmen, we were able to move back in to a warm, dry home as well as ensuring it’s preservation for years to come.
